We had a long drive into Tucumcari, so we had to stop in Albuqurque to eat at Rudy's "Country Store" and Bar-B-Q. The brisket was juicy, the pulled pork was so flavorful, and the sauces were delicious! Toad got a sausage too, but it was spicy so I stayed clear of it and had a side of potato salad instead.
Tucumcari is an old Route 66 town that has several motels restored to be reminiscent of the 50's and 60's.
It's no secret that Toad and I love small motels that are off the beaten path. They tend to have so many personal touches and so much charm. Roadrunner Lodge Motel is no exception! This was the second time Toad has stayed with them and I can see why he wanted to return. David, the man checking us in, was really nice and had a dog named Elvis. Our room was simple and clean and had a radio turned on when we entered that was tuned into old commercials that we both had a good laugh at. Things like rat poisoning and dynamite and how safe they are, and commercials like "ladies, do you need a better laundry soap?"
They had a really nice fire pit in front where all guests are welcome to come together. We sat outside at it for a little while, but the bugs were biting that night, so we retreated back to our room. We can see why Roadrunner Lodge Motel had just been named 2021's Number One Best Roadside Motel in the US!
We hope you enjoy! The adventure continues...
